Silk & Snow is a popular brand that sells mattresses in both The United States and Canada.
Because of Silk & Snow’s Canadian origin, many people assume its mattresses are fiberglass-free. I decided to look into the matter to be certain.
Researching Silk & Snow Fiberglass
Silk & Snow’s website doesn’t state anything about its flame barrier, aside from the S&S Organic product page that states no fiberglass is used.
I searched the Silk & Snow help pages for all terms related to glass fiber, flame barriers, and fire retardants, but couldn’t find any concrete info on fiberglass.
Direct contact seemed to be the only option for more fiberglass information, so I contacted Silk & Snow.
These are the questions I asked Silk & Snow:
“Do any of your latex and/or memory foam mattresses contain Fiberglass, Modacrylic, Polyester, Rayon, or Silica in the covers or any other part of the mattress? What about Fire Retardant sprays like Antimony, are any of them used on your mattresses? What countries are your mattresses made in?”
Silk & Snow got back to very quickly and had this to say:
“For US customers, this means that our mattresses are encased with a fire sleeve, which uses a textile comprised of CFF (continuous filament fiberglass). CFF is non-hazardous and approved for safe use by The Consumer Product Safety Commission, and is **not** the same type of fiberglass used in products such as wall insulation.. For Canadian customers, our mattresses do not use any sort of fire sleeve, as fireproofing is not required under Canadian legislation.”

Silk & Snow Fiberglass Use
Silk & Snow states its mattress sold in The United States are a bit different from the mattresses sold in Canada. This is due to the differing mattress flammability regulation between the two countries.
Silk & Snow mattresses sold in The United States contain a fiberglass flame barrier, while Canadian mattresses do not. The S&S Organic mattress uses wool as a flame retardant and does not contain fiberglass in the US or Canada.

While shopping for his daughter’s first “big girl” bed in 2019, John learned about the hidden dangers of fiberglass in mattresses. Since then, he’s made it his mission to expose as much hidden fiberglass in mattresses as possible. His ultimate goal is federal regulations that ban fiberglass from being used in mattresses, or at least a law that requires it to be listed as a material on required tags.
