Spindle sells innovative natural latex mattresses that can be purchased with varying densities of custom latex layers. The Spindle mattress covers can be removed for cleaning, and the latex layers are replaceable.
Since Spindle mattresses are so popular and highly recommended, I figured it would be a good idea to look into its flame barriers and whether it uses fiberglass or not.
I was happy to find that Spindle mattresses are fiberglass-free and rely on wool for their flame barriers.
Looking into Spindle Fiberglass Use
The first thing I did was check Spindles website. The website is very well-designed, organized, and easy to navigate.
A bit down Spindle’s website, I found a link to it’s FAQ page. One the Spindle FAQ Page there is a link to an article named Flame Retardants & Compliance.
On the Flame Retardants & Compliance, Spindle states this regarding its flame barrier:
“Regarding flameproofing, we use wool and do not add other materials to the wool.”
-Spindle
Also, the Spindle Latex Mattress page also states this:
“What’s so great about an organic latex mattress? It’s natural. Latex foam is made from the sap of the rubber tree. No chemical flame retardants. No fiberglass. No chlorinated or brominated solvents.”
-Spindle
Spindle is quite adamant that its mattresses do not contain fiberglass.
Does Spindle Have Fiberglass?
Spindle states in multiple locations on its website that its flame barrier is just wool, and no fiberglass is used in its mattresses.
However, Spindle also reached out to me and stated this:
“Manufacturer: Spindle Mattress
Fiberglass: NO
Modacrylic / Silica / Rayon / Polyester: NO
FR Chemical Spray: NO
Countries of Origin:
-Mattress manufactured in the USA.
-Components: USA, Canada, Sri Lanka, India, and New Zealand”-Spindle
That is the information included in the email I received from Spindle, it’s very structured, right? I’ve checked its website for inconsistencies, as well as social media, reviews, and reddit, but I haven’t found any.
I feel very comfortable saying Spindle is a great choice for a mattress made with natural materials that doesn’t rely on fiberglass as a flame retardant.

While shopping for his daughter’s first “big girl” bed in 2019, John learned about the hidden dangers of fiberglass in mattresses. Since then, he’s made it his mission to expose as much hidden fiberglass in mattresses as possible. His ultimate goal is federal regulations that ban fiberglass from being used in mattresses, or at least a law that requires it to be listed as a material on required tags.
