Since late 2019 I’ve been researching fiberglass use in mattresses, and calling out mattress makers for their deceptive tactics regarding its use.
In late 2020, SweetNight told me its mattresses were fiberglass-free. I almost believed what SweetNight said, but it’s a good thing I didn’t because it turned out they were potentially lying.
Does SweetNight Use Fiberglass?
At the end October, 2023, I emailed SweetNight and asked, “Do any of your memory foam mattresses contain fiberglass, modacrylic, or silica in the covers or any other part of the mattress? What countries are your memory foam mattresses made in?”
SweetNight got back to me very quickly and said this:
“As far as manufacturing is concerned, most of our products are made in Malaysia. Also, our mattresses contain no fiberglass at all. We took it off once the study suggests this material might be a health threat.” – SweetNight
However, I was still skeptical about SweetNight’s response because there were other sources online that seemed to confirm that SweetNight uses fiberglass in its mattresses. Plus, SweetNight ignored my questions about Modacrylic, Rayon, Polyester, and FR chemical sprays.
So, I followed up with another email and asked SweetNight these questions, “How do the mattresses pass the flammability tests without fiberglass? Is it through the use of Modacrylic, Polyester, Rayon, Silica (woven/non-woven) or is the fire retardant achieved via a FR spray like Antimony?”.
SweetNight never replied. I wrote them off as deceptive and potentially containing fiberglass.
Does SweetNight Use Chemicals instead of Fiberglass?
After a year and half went by, I decided to look into SweetNight again at the end of April 2022. I asked SweetNight these questions, “What about Fire Retardant sprays like Antimony, are any of them used on your mattresses? If not – how is fire retardant properties achieved?” for a second time.
SweetNight replied fairly quickly again and said this:
“We use fire retardant cotton.” -SweetNight
The answer explained how fiberglass could possibly have been removed while still passing flammability tests – through the use of flame-retardant chemicals being sprayed on the cotton cover.
However, it shows a bit of deceptions, because when I first contacted SweetNight they made no mention of this FR chemical, or any chemicals. SweetNight’s only mention of any chemicals was in their touting of a CertiPUR-US certification for low VOCs.
It seemed that SweetNight would apparently only mention potentially harmful chemicals it didn’t use, but if it thought a chemical was harmless, then consumers didn’t need to know about it. That about sums up SweetNight thus far in my hunt for answers.
SweetNight still had 3rd-party evidence of fiberglass in its mattresses that was being shared online. That combined with SweetNight ignoring the last email in our first round of interactions, and the fact that they weren’t initially transparent with me about FR chemicals.. I decided to continue NOT recommending SweetNight on the grounds of possible fiberglass use, and deceptive sales tactics.
Does SweetNight Even Know what Materials it Uses??
I immediately replied to the last email I got from SweetNight stating it uses fire retardant cotton and asked, “How is the cotton made to be Fire Retardant?”
To my bewilderment, this is the reply I received from SweetNight:
“We use technology to add fire-resistant material to the foam layer of the mattress.” -SweetNight
So, wait, now it’s not FR Cotton, but Fire-Resistant foam? In just two days time, SweetNight’s answer changed drastically.
At this point, I completely wrote SweetNight off as being super deceptive, and most definitely containing fiberglass. To back up this theory of fiberglass in SweetNight mattresses, I just had to look at the many customer reviews left on Amazon stating SweetNight uses fiberglass.
SweetNight Now Claiming Fiberglass Fee Since 2019
Some time during mid 2023 SweetNight posted a support page claiming it was fiberglass-free and its chatbot started referring potential customers to it when asked about fiberglass.
Also, there are a few threads on reddit where supposed SweetNight employees claim that SweetNight stopped using fiberglass in 2019, which seems to be false when all other evidence is taken into account.
It’s great if SweetNight actually stopped using fiberglass. However, saying they stopped using fiberglass before they actually did could potentially lead to more peoples’ homes being contaminated with fiberglass from old SweetNight mattresses incorrectly believed to be fiberglass-free.
After all the deception, conflicting answers, and ignored questions – I would be very skeptical when buying a SweetNight mattress.

While shopping for his daughter’s first “big girl” bed in 2019, John learned about the hidden dangers of fiberglass in mattresses. Since then, he’s made it his mission to expose as much hidden fiberglass in mattresses as possible. His ultimate goal is federal regulations that ban fiberglass from being used in mattresses, or at least a law that requires it to be listed as a material on required tags.
