Layla Sleep is a pretty popular brand that sells many Layla mattresses on its website, in brick-and-mortar stores, as well as online through retailers like Walmart.
Being hopeful to market Layla as a seller of safe and affordable mattresses, I got in touch with them regarding fiberglass in mid 2022.
Investigating Fiberglass in Layla Mattresses
I really liked the looks and prices of Layla mattresses and was hoping they were fiberglass-free. However, I could not find anything on its website regarding fiberglass.
The only thing I found on Layla’s website regarding its flame barrier was an article on mattress flame-resistance.
“The Layla Mattress uses a Ventex fire blocking sleeve which is made with 48% FR Rayon Allesandra and 52% FR Rayon Polyester. There are absolutely no chemicals added, the fire blocking elements are within the fabric itself.”
-Layla Sleep
After researching FR Rayon Allesandra I came to the conclusion that it’s actually spelled “Alessandra”, which is core-spun fiber. Often times, the filament fiber in Alessandra is a glass fiber.
I suspected Layla’s Rayon Alessandra was just rayon spun around a glass fiber filament.
Asking Layla Sleep About Fiberglass
I decided to just email Layla about fiberglass since the website didn’t state for sure whether it was used or not. These are the questions I asked Layla:
Do your mattresses contain fiberglass? What about Polyester, Rayon, Modacrylic, Silica, or Antimony? Where are Layla mattresses made?
Layla Sleep got back to me fairly quickly and this is the reply I received:
“It does include fiberglass. However, the fiberglass is fully encapsulated in a spun fiber and not exposed. There is polyester in the cover but no Modacrylic, Polyester, Rayon, or Silica. We don’t use any fire retardant sprays & all of our mattresses are made in the US; Indiana to be exact.”

Layla Fiberglas Use in 2024
I did a 2024 follow-up with Layla recently, just to see if it still uses fiberglass. I made contact and asked the same question as before.
This is the latest reply from Layla:
It’s pretty much the same reply from 2 years ago, Layla still contains fiberglass.
Layla Sleep Uses Fiberglass
It may not have been very forthcoming on its website, but at least Layla Sleep was honest when directly asked about fiberglass.
Layla Sleep admits its mattresses contain fiberglass. I would avoid Layla mattresses until glass fibers are no longer used as a flame retardant.

While shopping for his daughter’s first “big girl” bed in 2019, John learned about the hidden dangers of fiberglass in mattresses. Since then, he’s made it his mission to expose as much hidden fiberglass in mattresses as possible. His ultimate goal is federal regulations that ban fiberglass from being used in mattresses, or at least a law that requires it to be listed as a material on required tags.
